Power Cord threaten live the Sumatran elephants

RSF patrol team returned to find a serious threat to the survival of the Sumatran elephant in the village balairaja edge Bengkalis districts in Riau Province. In conducting the monitoring, the team found a stretch of 400 meters long power cable on the path Balairaja roaming.

One elephant child almost died after a high-voltage electric shock because the cable is installed so low that almost touched the ground. The electrical wiring used as a toy by children elephant, in a wrap-made trunk and pulled up to drop out.


To avoid things that are not desirable, Tim RSF monitoring the program and fix the power cord with the community by tying the cable higher off the ground, so that can not be reached by elephants.
